Are you evaluating a child for acute septic arthritis of the hip joint?

Temperature of the child

Does the child have pain localized to the hip joint, made worse by gentle motion?

Is there significant spasm affecting the hip muscles?

Does the affected hip joint show a reduced range of motion?

Do imaging studies of the hip show osteomyelitis of the proximal femur or subluxation of the hip joint?

Was gross pus aspirated from the affected hip joint?

WBC count in the aspirated joint fluid

Percent neutrophils in the differential count on the joint fluid (enter from 0 to 100)

Is the Gram stain done on the joint fluid positive for bacteria?

Is culture of the aspirated joint fluid positive for a pathogenic organism?
