Criteria for a Major Exacerbation of Wegener's Granulomatosis

• cerebral vasculitis?

• cranial nerve palsy?

• motor and sensory nerve disturbances?

• necrotizing scleritis?

• orbital pseudotumor?

• tracheal stenosis with severe dyspnea?

• dyspnea with pulmonary infiltrates on chest X-ray?

• myocardial infarction due to vasculitis?

• acute abdomen due to vasculitis?

• massive GI hemorrhage due to vasculitis?

Is the patient's C-reactive protein increasing?

Number of RBCs per high power field in the urine sediment

Usual creatinine clearance prior to current episode

Current creatinine clearance

Does the patient have progressive disease despite treatment with intermediate immunosuppression (prednisolone and cyclophosphamide)?

Are these findings felt to be due to Wegener's granulomatosis and not some other cause?
